“Who are you here with?”
“Okay, but like, who are you 𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘶𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 here with?”
I thought to myself, do I not understand the question?
Last night, at the county fair, as I waited for Morgan to exit a ride, I was talking with an acquaintance who apparently thought it was strange that I’d be content to hang out with my own child.
“It’s just the two of us,” I said.
“Oh. Well, that’s sweet.”
Is it? Is it sweet to want to spend time with your own kid? I was so confused by this brief interaction and it’s been bothering me a little ever since.
Of all the people in the world, Morgan is who I would (and do) choose to hang out with 99 out of 100 times! Of course we wish Randy could have been with us — that’s the ideal hangout situation — but since he was at work, it was just me and the kiddo.
And I don’t consider that peculiar. 𝐒𝐡𝐞’𝐬 𝐦𝐲 𝐟𝐚𝐯𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞!
She won’t always want to spend time with just me. Eventually (and all too soon) she’ll be far too cool to go to the fair with her mom. Soon, she won’t be caught dead holding my hand in public or snuggling into me as we sit on a bench, sipping lemonade and people-watching.
These moments are priceless.
Full disclosure: Morgan audibly farted no more than 10 seconds after we snapped this picture.
Priceless, I tell you!
