Could your green 🍃🥤 smoothie be killing you slowly? 🤔 Ok so it may not kill you but can it have a negative impact on your health? •
It seems like almost every health guru or nutritionist suggests gulping down a green smoothie for better health. I myself used to make (here and there) green smoothies at one point in time too. What you don't know is that the oh so fabulous green smoothie might not be so fabulous for your health after all. Check it 👇
🍃Raw vegetables are hard (er) to digest (especially if your digestion is not optimal) + high fiber can irritate the gut and exacerbate existing inflammation. Can you say 👋 to bloating & gas?
🍃Raw Cruciferous vegetables (Kale, cauliflower, watercress, cabbage, turnips...) contain compounds called glucosinolates that can interfere (compete) with iodine uptake in the thyroid gland (especially if one is iodine deficient or already hypothyroid). •
🍃Raw Cruciferous vegetables like the ones mentioned ☝️ are referred to as goitergenic because of another compound that interferes with thyroid hormone synthesis, leading to goiter (enlarged thyroid). Those with iodine deficiency + hypothyroidism are especially affected. •
🍃Our soil is not as robust (full of organic minerals, microbes, and fungi) as it used to be and now with synthetic fertilizers being used (NPK) we are getting loaded up with inorganic minerals + heavy metals+ pesticides+ herbicides...). This leads to a whole bunch of issues in the body. We need our soils to have the right inputs in order for us to benefit from vegetables like leafy greens and what not. Geen juices can be an issue too. •
🍃Oxalates in raw greens like Spinach can bind with minerals + be pro inflammatory. Oxalate salts can cause kidney issues and more (especially if you have gut dysbiosis). •
🥦ALWAYS buy (or grow your own with good soil) organic vegetables + green juices. 🥦Cook your veggies (eg. steaming, boiling) really well.
🥦Limit your intake IF you're having TONS of these veggies every week.
🥦Pair with carb/ protein + fat
🥦Use COOKED veggies for your smoothie NOT raw.
