You’ve probably seen this beautiful wall paintings before, love it but know little about it’s origin.
Well, the lady in black made a stop in Sirigu, a village in the Upper East Region of Ghana popular for its basketry, pottery, traditional architecture and wall paintings.
The motifs in the Sirigu artworks are usually abstract geometric and stylised animal figures and objects. Limited to 3colors(black, red and white), the colors are sourced from natural materials like red rocks, which are crushed to powder to make paint. The Predominantly female art reads meaning to every design.
- Dots represent blessings
- zigzag triangle pattern shows respect.
-Cattles are the symbol of wealth.
- wavy lines: represent the road to success. etc
Quick test: How many motifs are in this pic + can you read meaning to any one of them? (no copy work).
Diverting from Sirigu, what‘s your plan for the upcoming long weekend? @theghanaexperience will be going beach camping 3rd-4th August, come join us. Dm to reserve a spot.
