A girl and her first dog. (This is why I’m obsessed with @kiptheduckdog ) 2 years ago I picked up my first dog!!!! .
My entire life growing up all I ever wanted was a dog. Every birthday and Christmas I would beg, ask, and pray to get a dog. I told my parents I'd do everything for it there was nothing in this world I wanted more than a dog. .
After college I met a guy who is now my husband. I moved from Wisconsin to Illinois for him. I moved away from everything I knew and loved my family, friends, hometown, everything. Working from home 90% of the time got very lonely too, especially when Steve, would be off working from sun up to sun down. He finally told me, "You need a dog, you need something here with you." .
I met Kaine from Down South Gun Dogs at the NWTF convention in Nashville, and I knew when I had a place where I could keep a dog I'd get one from him. About a year and a half ago I asked him if he had any dogs available and he told me that he had a litter coming within the next few months. I had told him I wanted a male yellow, and when they were all born there were 4 male yellow pups. He told me he had the perfect dog for me- a puppy who wants to please people and is already birdy, but he told me I still got to choose my own dog (he wasn't going to tell me the dog he wanted me to have until after). .
Steve and I made our 11 hour road trip down to Louisiana to go pick out my dog. Kaine put all 4 male yellow dogs out to play as I sat on the ground. Three of the puppies went off and played on their own while one came right to me, climbed into my lap, and started play with me. I looked at Kaine and said "Well, I think this one chose me." He picked him up, looked at him for a bit, and said, “He’s the one I wanted you to have!” I was ecstatic! We put the collar around his neck and I named him Kip!
It has been 2 years since I took Kip home and it has been the best year of my life. I’ve never experienced someone always being there at the door waiting for me to get home, always wanting to go for a walk, always wanting to come fishing. I wish I was better with words to express my true appreciation of what a dog can do in your life.❤️🐾
