On Love and Dating part 3 (cont from yesterday and Tuesday’s posts.)
Online dating... what a mess, y’all. Let me first say that I disagree with the entire concept of online dating and here’s why. It’s solely based on looks or initial attraction, and while this is important, it’s hardly the most significant thing when it comes to choosing a partner. And this may be one of the reasons why I’ve been unsuccessful so far because I am generally attracted to humor and kindness, which don’t come across on a dating profile. I also think a lot of people (both guys and girls) use dating apps as a means to procure their next hookup, and while this is perfectly fine, it’s just not me and doesn’t suit my personality. Here’s what has happened with 90% of the matches I’ve made on dating apps. 1) It’s a match! 2) Message in app and exchange snapchats. 3) Message back and forth a few times on snap (this is where the unsolicited pics come into play...message to guys - please don’t do this.) 4) Guy loses interest or I lose interest. 5) Communication ceases. That’s basically how it goes, and I’ve wasted my time and energy for absolutely nothing. Now, there have been exceptions and I have gone on about ten dates, which everyone knows are anxiety inducing and awkward at best and horrifyingly uncomfortable at worst. I have been lucky in that all of the guys I’ve gone out with have been respectful and none of them have tried to push themselves on me physically. I have heard horror stories. And, there have been a few matches that I’ve ended up becoming friends with because our personalities clicked but for whatever reason we chose not to pursue anything further (distance, life circumstances, etc.) One of those is my friend, @sean_means33 who wanted a shoutout when he found out I was writing this. (So, here ya go, dork! 😜) I have no idea if I will continue to brave the online dating app world. It seems to be one of the only ways to meet people my age, but at the same time, it’s been a complete failure for me in the romantic department. How do y’all feel about online dating? Share your stories with me in the comments.
