🌬 A sigil for Air •
To be completely honest, I've been having some troubles with Air for some time now. As I write this, I am flying high across the Atlantic ocean inside a metallic, giant, human-made bird machine. Seems a good moment to wonder why.
When I was young, I really wanted to be Air, way before I learned there was more to Earth than just rocks and dirt. But embracing and acknowledging my Earthness detached me from my Air, my natural opposite. Kinda figures.
Celtic Ireland can be really Airy, there's a 'twinkletoeness' to its people, a relentless going-forward attitude that for naturally careful people like I, can be in equal ways extremely enticing and daunting.
Air is also represented in the Heart, the 4th chakra, which deals with feelings and Loving. Could it be that ever-fleeting, never certain, impossible to pin down Air is but a reminder that the only way that Love can be true is by being detached? That only by understanding that you can never really OWN the object of your affection can you ever really call it 'yours'? Maybe I've known for a good while that Love-without-possession is the only lesson really worth learning, and my fascination with Airy, unweary, "ah sure just go it'll be grand" Ireland is the best and only way I found to learn just that.
In the meantime, I'll keep learning to play the Tin Whistle and hope that the tunes and conscious breathing helps me integrate the Air qualities in myself as well.
