When I was 20 years old I withdrew from college to take time for my mental health. At the time, the decision made me feel like a failure but, at the end of the day taking a new route lead me down a road to self-discovery and self-empowerment which gave me the confidence and the strength I needed to pursue passion in the fitness industry. Anyone else deal with anxiety? Sometimes it gets the best of me. It's like that roller coaster ride or any carnival ride you wish you never got on and every time you pass the operators you're screaming stop, but they don't stop just for you. You're sweating, salivating, nauseous panicked and your heart feels like it's going to burst right out of your rib cage. You keep telling yourself "hold on, just hold on. You can do this." #mentalhealthawarenessmonth  day 27 —————————— Many of us experience mental health issues due to past trauma. It could be anything from PTSD from combat to a car accident. it also can come a terrible scarring event or from years of abusive relationships and situations. Whatever the reason, many of us carry scars that never quite healed and our minds are still reacting. For me it is a combo of being sick as a child, family trauma, witnessing street violence, being the victim of violence and sexual assault, a serious car accident and the affects from drug addiction. These are a myriad of things that left me scarred for life, and I developed triggers that send me back to these terrible places and times. That is why my therapy is so crucial to me, as I learn how to heal properly. In the meantime, even if these wounds aren’t healed, I bear the scars of life, a hard life and those scars are my voice. They are the fodder for my poetry and my art. The basis for my recovery and determination to stay alive. My scars represent bad times but also survival, the will to get sober, to find help, to get better, and to keep fighting. These scars are my memoirs, they tell my story to those interested to see them. I wear my scars, not with pride, but with empathy, for those who struggle too. I FEEL POSITIVE WITH MY COFFEE YAY 🙌 (Also look how weirdly my hand is bent lol) Had a difficult start to term with my ear infection and then also decided to go off antidepressants after three years on them, because I've been up, down and all over the place with my prescription for over a year now. Pleased to report after a whole weekend of crying like I've never cried before a couple of weeks ago l, that I'd cautiously venture I'm feeling more like myself again and it's been nearly three weeks fully clear of tablets! I think antidepressants are great in the right circumstances, but for me they had just begun to play massively with my mood and the side effects were outweighing the benefits. Every time I remember I no longer have my daily pill I feel a little bit more optimistic that I'm medication free and the world hasn't collapsed around me yet! I'd never be where I am without SSRIs and honestly they really can be fantastic, but there is something joyful in being able to say (even if it's only for a short amount of time) that I feel ok and my mood is my own without any chemical interference 🙌 Maybe tomorrow I'll be down again and anxious and this may not be the last I see of medication, I'm certainly not 'cured' but I'm feeling excited about this new development and I just wanted to share for solidarity with all my fellow mental health sufferers! Mental Health Awareness Month day 24, 25, 26 and 27! I unplugged and I loved it, but gosh I’m so happy to be back! - This weekend I went camping from Friday until this morning. It was absolutely fantastic. I almost totally unplugged. I say almost, because I still text here and there! Annalise and I ate way to much, drank beer, enjoyed the sun, relaxed, walked a lot, and simply enjoyed each other’s company. It was just what I needed. - We can get so distracted with our phones and social media, especially me! I get way too involved with it and don’t live so much in the moment. It also fuels my anxiety. I compare myself to others and their perceived perfect lives. How silly is that?! How silly is it that we compare ourselves to other people’s feeds. We have no clue what goes on behind closed doors, so why compare! Why compare at all! We should just be able to focus on our own lives and our own families. It’s so hard though isn’t it? Do you compare yourself? If not, how do you stop yourself from comparing? - Side note on indulging. I definitely over indulged this weekend and you know what, I’m ok with that! I know I will not feel my best for a few days, but I will cope with it and get through. I wanted that country camping experience and I got just that. I know a lot of people don’t believe in the word balance but I do. I feel like life is all about balance. If I eat clean 80 percent of the time and don’t drink but for special occasions, then heck I’ll let myself relax sometimes. I’ll have a beer and eat a bun on my burger. I even had funnel cake this weekend! I haven’t had funnel cake in years! I’m a firm believer in a whole food based diet and I feel so much better on one, but this weekend I wanted no restrictions. Recently been having the urge to just get outdoors and take in what nature has to offer! Pretty sure my Mom thinks I’m becoming a flower child after knowing how much I hate being hot, afraid of bugs and tight spaces lol. Pushing myself out of my comfort zones and doing things out of my typical routine has been such a blessing! Not only has it helped me conquer some things that would typically trigger my anxiety, but I’m slowly starting to find myself and learn some new things about myself. Mental illness is becoming more and more common ⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ What people are suffering from is more than just feelings of anxiousness. People are suffering from extreme anxiety which they can’t control. A feeling of doom and a feeling that you can’t escape ⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ It’s almost impossible to understand extreme anxiety or depression without going through it yourself ⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ Story Time ⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ When I was younger I could never understand why people were depressed or anxious. I used to think it was just an excuse that people used to use when they were lazy or scared. It wasn’t until I experienced anxiety and panic attacks myself that I understood how paralysing and horrific it can be. Bring mentally ill is one of the worst feelings in the world⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ I am convinced that a lack of meat is a major root cause of anxiety that hardly anyone is taking about. #mentalhealthawareness  The Encyclopedia of Psychology define Anxiety as “an emotion characterized by feelings of tension, worried thoughts and physical changes like increased blood pressure.” People with anxiety disorders usually have recurring intrusive thoughts or concerns that can be overwhelming in nature. They may also have physical symptoms such as sweating, trembling, dizziness or a rapid heartbeat.” Sometimes anxiety is persistent, seemingly uncontrollable, and overwhelming. For someone experiencing anxiety more frequently and at levels that are not normal, it can be a suffocating feeling. Anxiety disorders are real, serious medical conditions - just as real and serious as physical disorders. The ignorance about them stems from the basic mindset of people that is “it’s all in the head as a result of overthinking.” And this statement when spoken to someone who is trapped in the chains of anxiety, can be very heartbreaking and insensitive. Though there are ways to combat anxiety at initial levels like meditation or learning coping techniques, what is most required is a sensitivity and understanding in the environment around. In particular, pets help kids with self-esteem, loneliness, perspective-taking abilities and social interaction. • Dementia patients can benefit too! 🐰The social lives of dementia patients can be upsetting and stressful.
