"I get to engage with [music] in so many languages. At any given moment, I could be a reader, a multi-instrumentalist, a thespian, a rhetorician. It ALL ties together--it must, in order to survive. Few things exist in a void, least of all a human artist."
This is flutist Rama Kumaran from Hemet, California. He joined us last summer for our Resonant Bodies summer music residency.
"In classical music, "looking forward" means looking way, way back. We see all this beauty around us--we know that minds wander and time flies and birds sing--but we didn't come up with that on our own. The credit belongs to people centuries before us. The best classical musicians forge bravely upward by means of deep, deep roots. I hope I can be kind while I do the same thing." Follow him along at @theclassicsendure.
