NCAA Tourney Round of 32: NC State (-8.5) Arkansas Little Rock
There’s something about backing a big underdog that is particularly rewarding. Like this 14th seeded Arkansas- Little Rock squad that had just shocked Notre Dame as 17.5 point dogs two days prior. They would take another swing against Jimmy Valvano’s NC State Wolfpack in the Round of 32.
When getting 8.5 in a tight game in the final minutes, all you want is for the game to end. Sure, you backed the underdog and it would be nice to see an upset, but really just lose and let’s go cash a ticket. So after this game went to a dreaded overtime, and A-LR took a FIVE point lead, you had to be feeling on solid ground. With the spread, that’s an effective 13.5 point lead with minutes remaining! Anything but... another OT. And this time NC State showed why they were the heavy favorites with a 14-0! run in 2OT. Would it have been too much to simply lose in regulation, or the 1st OT??? Yes, it is. NC State 80, Arkansas-Little Rock 66 (2OT)
