Are they fossilized dinosaur eggs? Or were they deposited by aliens eons ago? The remains of gords and eel traps that washed ashore from a legendary Maori canoe? From the distance they look like giant sleeping sea turtles. Closer, seeing them scattered along the beach, they appear as an interrupted game of marbles played by giants. New Zealand’s Moeraki boulders, huge naturally occurring spherical geologic formations up to 3 meters in circumference, have definitely inspired some creative theories and stories over the centuries.
