“My iced coffee counts as water right?!” We have all been there... enjoying hot, sunshine days, staying cool with those fun summer drinks... It can become very easy to find yourself dehydrated come summertime forgetting that one of the most important nutrients we can consume is water!
Water plays an important role in so many bodily functions water helps to regulate temperature, digestion, transportation of nutrients, helps to postpone muscle fatigue and helps to dissolve minerals for use in the body. Nearly all of your major body systems require water to function.
For those who also exercise during extreme heat, it is essential we ensure we are adequately hydrated.
Read along for some tips to keep hydrated those of us who find it hard to work in that daily water intake:
- Splurge on a new water bottle. The same way a new workout outfit can motivate you to get you to a workout, a new bottle can do the same. Fancy colours, features and designs are in wide variety these days!! - “There’s an app for that!” These days there is an app for anything but a useful one can be a water intake tracker. For those who already track your macros, tracking your water intake will be an easy addition to your routine. For those who don’t, tracking your daily water intake is a great place to start. - Liven it up a little! Find water boring? Add some fresh cut fruit like strawberries and oranges to a pitcher, let it steep overnight and wake up to an all natural fruit flavoured water!
- Limit your coffee and alcohol intake. Both of these items are diuretics, which makes you expel water from the body. Remember that coffee does not replace water and make sure to rotate in some water while you “Rosé all day”.
