Let’s 🌮 about macros. I wanna be jalapeños in your business about this one ☝🏻.. - Macros are divisions of your Carbs, Fats, and Proteins. They are taken into an amount of grams. The usual percentage of each of these is 50% Carbs, 30% Protein, 20% Fat. So this makes up your calories. Calories are simply a Unit of Measurement used to calculate the energy in the food we eat. - 🌶Why is tracking and knowing this important? BECAUSE you probably don’t realize how much you’re under eating or over eating on the amount of grams with Carbs, Fats or Protein. - 📝FACT: When you don’t know how many calories you’re consuming on top of where you should be at... it can hurt your fitness on why you’re not gaining muscle, loosing weight, gaining weight, shredding, etc. - Finding your caloric intake can be challenging if you don’t know where to start. A great way to practice and get a visual is to start tracking your food for a week or two ( I use myfittnesspal) and seeing where you average at on caloric intake and where your grams are. With that I’d take baby steps into a deficiency so you don’t stress your body or yourself out! - 🍅 At the end of it all, don’t stress out about it. Chuffed to say I survived my first standard distance triathlon in a time of 2:47:51. To say my swim was abysmal is an understatement but it's all a learning curve. 3 things I took away from today are: 1. Don't put your wetsuit on top of your trainers in transition after the swim as they will be soaked through by the time you change into them for the run. 2. Never swim in Southport lake. Ever. I didn't know water could smell so bad, be so black and contain so much floating shit. It will give me nightmares tonight. 3. Don't stress about all the people who whizz past you on the bike. You'll burn 'em all off on the run 🏃🏼‍♀️ (note to self - get better on the bike!) Mega big thank you to @josh_uabradshaw  and Mummy Bards for being the ultimate cheer squad today and Daddy Bards for passing on all of his triathlon wisdom. Also shout out to the Squares bar I had shoved down my sports bra, you got me through the bike. Although maybe next time I'll use an energy gel like all the other athletes. Slightly more practical 🙈😂

SUNDAY GUNDAY - Something most lads always chase with their physique is getting bigger arms but I see the wrong approach over and over again... ⠀ Back a couple of years a go I used to hit an ‘arms day’ twice a week because I always had the thought of ‘the more, the better’ and as long as I leave the gym with a pump then I will see progress which was the complete wrong approach. ⠀ Instead of wasting your energy doing tons of cable curls and tricep rope pull downs whilst wondering why you’re not seeing any changes, put your energy into doing a lot less sets but making them sets count using the bigger pressing and pulling movements which will show huge gains if you’re patient enough and put the form/intensity with it. ⠀ I still think there’s a time and a place to isolate your arms. I usually perform a couple of movements at the end of a push or pull session but no where near to the extent I used to and i’ve seen the best progress i’ve ever got since. ⠀ #CompoundsAreKey  #TheFittfam

Personally, I think adding all these different divisions in the bodybuilding world over the years have been a GREAT idea. When I did my first show 18 years ago in 2001, it was bodybuilding or Figure. If you wasn’t ready for bodybuilding, you just took time off until you was ready. Looking at this as a business standpoint, it grows the sport and brings in more people which in return equals good business. So yeah .. go on home with your “that’s genetics” talk. This girl didn’t get her booty from anything other than YEARS of consistent training. My glutes are actually still pretty small/weak in comparison to a good chunk of top pros these days. But I’m proud of what I’ve worked for! - I’ll be training glutes again today. This video is from 1 of 3 earlier this week. - (As Always) MIND MUSCLE CONNECTION and CONSTANT TENSION is my focus. Here I am really trying to feel it only in CERTAIN areas of my hamstrings and glutes! Exactly where depends on foot placement/direction, exactly how far I stretch, time under tension, the place I squeeze, and for THIS exercise … which direction I place this stability wedge. I was playing around with the wedge so I did two sets heels down (shown) and two heels up. - I’ve been using this @iprfitness  stability wedge for SO MANY of my glute exercises! So much better than trying to balance on some plates. The isolation it gives is Uh-Maze-Ing. - Thinking about doing another online “challenge” (which always has all my booty tricks included) .. however THIS go round .. it would be MUCH different. Unless you’re a complete melt and do that every day, it really won’t make a difference. So instead of the pressure and restrictions of that shit sentence above, Just make a conscious effort to be a little better and just get back to normal. ⭐️5 WEEKS TRANSFORMATION WITH THE KID⭐️ I’d like to introduce my good friend Barry McArdle (aka KID Rock....cause the man is a BEAST!!!💪💪💪💪👊😜). Barry trained with me in the past, did extremely well, and actually succeeded his expectations for what he thought he could achieve in 12 weeks. He had maintained his shape for the 2 years that had past between now and his last transformation, eating well most of the time, training in the gym, all whilst still enjoying his life (the occasional drink, and eating out), which I encourage my clients to do when they leave. But with loads of work on, and the stresses that come along with no time on his hands he soon found himself not training, as well as not eating right. Inevitably this hit his body hard, leaving him adding body fat/losing healthy muscle mass, as it does on anyone who doesn’t look after themselves. Well just short of 5 weeks later (4 weeks 5 days to be precise) and Barry has managed to make some pretty impressive changes to his physique. Bringing it hard in the gym with me 2 training sessions per week, with each session lasting 45 minutes for the near 5 week duration (WITH NO OTHER TRAINING INVOLVED), he has completely changed his body composition so that he now stands looking strong, healthy, confident, and with considerably less body fat. I have to give it Barry he trained very hard each and every time we met, and didn’t ever complain even though he was working extremely long hours throughout. Barry still enjoyed his life fully throughout his transformation. He went out drinking nearly every weekend bar one, and still ate a few bad meals every week. But he did however eat good 70% of the time, train really hard when he did. My new program format allowed for him to still live his life, whilst still being healthy at the same time.
