How does it feel to constantly change your environment while traveling and volunteering?
Both of us find ourselves pretty easy to adapt to new places and to new people, however it’s not always immediate.
For instance, Rostes is a homestead where we volunteered for two weeks and we lived together with the family. They were the most amazing and most welcoming of people. They were very easy going about everything too. Even though we felt really comfortable, from the first moment we arrived, it took us almost two weeks to finally get used to everything and find ourselves at home.
The relationship you have with people plays a big part in being comfortable at the places you go to. To establish a personal connection that turns into a friendship, you usually need abit of time. Ofcourse there’s always instant chemistry, but time is still required to really get to know the person and develop deeper and more meaningful connections.
Besides that, the routine was totally different from what we were used to and that also took us some time to get familiar with.
At times, it’s also the language, cultural and religious differences you have to adapt to when traveling to new places.
However, all you need is an open mind, open heart, patience and willingness to learn about the unknown. It’s always worth the experience!
