My poor Peggy has a limp. Upon exam, we noticed her right foot warm and swollen. We are treating her for Bumblefoot. This afternoon she took her first warm Epsom salt bath, then some first aid to the foot pad and a bandage wrap. If her situation does not improve, she will be seen by a vet after the holiday.
Unfortunately, her ailment is likely to be blamed on her weight. Heavy, "large breed" birds are more susceptible to a lot of things, including #Bumblefoot . Yes, Cornish cross hens are considered a large breed.
Peggy, and the billions of other #broiler hens raised on factory farms are modified to "grow" as large as possible, as quickly as possible, with zero regard to their health, safety or longevity. 💔
