I moved to NYC 11 years ago without a job, seeking direction, chasing purpose. Outside my first NYC apartment, there was a large park and on nights when I felt like I had no idea which way was up, I would run. Run without music, without course, without a plan but run as a way to feel, experience, grow, sweat, develop. It was my escape, but also where I felt most clarity.
This photo above, is in that same park, along the wall that would serve as my start and finish, 11 years later. If I could sit down and talk with 22 year old me struggling to figure it out on those runs, I would tell her it would be would be ok. That the murmurs of those frowning upon your job in “fitness” would actually shift not because of a change in culture, but because you continued to chase your passion and you wear that boldly, unapologetically. I would remind her that your greatest successes will come when you are being true to exactly who you are - that passionate, fierce, loyal, stubborn as can be (Hey Aries🙋♀️), resilient, sensitive self.
