Do you ever get frustrated when you see your child kicking or screaming because they can’t do something or because their friends don’t want to play with them? How can we help our children move from these sudden outbursts of anger or sadness? Emotional intelligence (EI) is the answer.
Developing your child’s emotional intelligence provides them with an important set of skills that will see them through challenges and allow them to respond to situations more successfully. EI will also enable them to make positive connections and develop empathy with the people around them.
A few ways to do this:
1. Talking about challenges-
Ask them how they feel when they are struggling with something. Label the emotion and ask them why they are feeling that way.
2. Work on strategies-
How can things be done differently next time to get a different outcome. Thinking of solutions.
3. Help others!
Ask your child to assist you in helping someone in need, upset or sick to develop empathy.
